Dr. Miguel Encarnação is the President of iMedia and Program Director for related R&D. From 1997 to 2002, he worked as a senior scientist and head of the Human Media Technologies department of the Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics (CRCG), Inc. At CRCG, he was responsible for research in next-generation user interfaces to virtual environments, virtual and augmented reality technologies, computer aided education and instruction (CAE/CAI) and advanced distributive learning and training technologies, and continues these R&D directions after transitioning with the former CRCG Human Media Technologies Department to iMedia.
Dr. Encarnação received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1997 from the University of Tübingen, Germany, with a thesis on 'Concept and realization of intelligent user support in interactive graphics applications.' He received his B.S. in Computer Science in 1988 and his M.S. in Computer Science in 1992 from the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany.
Dr. Encarnação holds an adjunct professorship position in Computer Science with the University of Rhode Island and is an expert consultant in human-computer interaction and data visualization to the International Academy for Advanced Decision Support (IAADS). He is a member of the ACM SIGCHI, the IEEE Computer Society, the Eurographics Association, the German Society of Computer Graphics, and the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education and is a member of the editorial board of the IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications.
